Wallbreaking

Sarpy County, Nebraska recently celebrated the start of its new 911 Center project with a wall breaking event, to commemorate the start of the demolition process, where County Board Members took the first swings to mark the beginning of construction.

The project represents a significant investment in public safety and will support the dispatchers and emergency response agencies who serve the Sarpy county every day. The project consists of approximately 7,500 SF of renovation, transforming the former Pinnacle Bank building, originally built in 1976 and modified over the years, into a modern emergency communications facility. The renovation includes a 7,351 SF minor renovation on one level and a 7,351 SF complete renovation on the other. Once complete, the facility will feature a state-of-the-art dispatch center with 12 fully equipped workstations, along with new offices, training and conference rooms, and staff support spaces. Additional amenities will include two quiet rooms for staff to decompress during demanding shifts and a fitness area to help employees stay active and recharge.

The Sarpy County Board Chair, Don Kelly, recognized the dedication of the county’s dispatchers, describing them as “calm, professional, and superbly trained,” and shared that he is “excited to move [dispatchers] into this modern, beautiful facility.” Emergency Communications Director Bill Muldoon also spoke about the importance of the project, noting that the new command facility will support more efficient workflows, accommodate future growth, and better serve both dispatchers and the residents who rely on them in critical moments.

Construction is now underway, with demolition complete and crews currently installing new mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems in the lower level. On the main level, framing and rough-ins are in progress as the building begins to take shape. One of the unique challenges of the project is the installation of a six-inch raised floor across half of the main level. Beneath the floor will be 16 floor boxes and multiple conduit lines to support the telecom and audiovisual systems essential to the dispatch center’s operations.

Sarpy County is especially excited about the opportunity to relocate employees from the current 911 Center, affectionately referred to as the “dungeon”, into a new, updated facility designed to better support the critical work they do every day. Beckenhauer Construction is proud to partner with Sarpy County and Clark & Enersen on this important project and looks forward to its continued progress.
