Role and Responsibility
As Beckenhauer Construction’s full-time Safety Director, BJ oversees all aspects of jobsite safety. He conducts weekly site visits at every site to collaborate with Superintendents on current safety conditions and concerns. BJ is responsible for initiating safety training programs and developing emergency action plans prior to project mobilization. His role includes preparing and reviewing safety procedures for high-risk activities such as excavation, demolition, fall protection, and steel erection. He performs OSHA training and inspections and ensures all subcontractors adhere to Beckenhauer’s safety standards. BJ also monitors regulatory changes and keeps our team informed and compliant with the latest OSHA requirements. BJ is also a certified Instructor through the National Safety Council, and trains employees on CPR/Basic First Aid/AED use, Machine operations (Skidloader, Telehandler, Boomlift, ScissorLift, Overhead Crane), and Stormwater Site plans (prep, execution and inspection).
Experience
BJ brings a deep and diverse background to his role as Safety Director. With over 25 years in Law Enforcement — rising from Patrolman to Chief of Police — his career has always centered on the safety and well-being of others. BJ served as an adjunct professor at the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy, Lincoln Land Community College, and the University of Illinois Police Training Institute. Before joining Beckenhauer Construction, he served as the Plant Manager and Safety Director for Weiland Inc., a door manufacturing company. His combined experience in public service and industrial safety brings a practical, disciplined approach to protecting workers and maintaining safe job sites across all of our projects.
