Beckenhauer Construction is proud to highlight the progress and successful completion of the Western Nebraska Community College Harms Building renovation, a significant project that involved renovating approximately 33,510 SF of the existing building and constructing a new 1,160 SF vestibule and entry link. This work supports WNCC’s long-term vision of expanding and enhancing its healthcare education offerings through modern, functional, and student-focused facilities.

A major component of the renovation included transforming an 8,300 SF, two-story area into WNCC’s new nursing center. This updated space now features nursing labs, simulation areas, two fully outfitted operating rooms, additional classrooms, and staff offices on both the lower and main levels. The renovation also introduced an open lobby and reception area with a wood ceiling feature as well as new storefront windows designed to bring more natural light into the building. Beyond the interior improvements, the project required extensive site work, including demolition, utility relocation, grading, and paving to support longterm accessibility and growth.

One of the most notable aspects of this project was navigating construction in and around occupied areas. The Owner continued operating throughout the renovation, and a separate entity, the Educational Service Unit (ESU), occupies space directly adjacent to the newly renovated main level. This created unique coordination needs, particularly involving tubular skylights and additional painting and drywall work that extended into ESU areas outside the original project boundary. Through consistent communication and a collaborative approach, the team worked through these challenges, helping ensure a smooth finish and a successful outcome for WNCC.

Western Nebraska Community College recently celebrated the ribbon cutting of its newly renovated Health Sciences Building, marking the completion of a project that represents a meaningful investment in students, faculty, and the future of education on campus. The renovation, delivered through the collaboration of Western Nebraska Community College, Wilkins Architecture Design Planning, Beckenhauer Construction, and numerous project partners, highlights the strong teamwork, planning, and craftsmanship that brought this vision to life.
